Macey & Sons is honoured to have Julian Marland General Manager, Development of West Kowloon Cultural District Authority. As guest speaker, he spoke on The West Kowloon Cultural District's development as an arts and culture hub that will further drive the position of Hong Kong as a key centre for the art market on an international scale.

Mr. Marland joined the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority in August 2017. He started his career in banking, moving to the British Museum to help set up the development office in 1994 and then to Southbank Centre as Development Director in 1999, before joining Brakeley in 2003 as a Senior Consultant specialising in advising clients in the cultural sector. He has lived in Hong Kong since 2008 and was formerly the Managing Director of Brakeley Asia, where he was responsible for providing fundraising consultancy advice to clients in the not-for-profit sector, as well as serving as Director of Development at Canadian International School between 2012 and 2016.

This session covered: the beautiful ambition of what the West Kowloon Cultural District plan to create, the importance of having a vibing centre to ensure that everyone can take part in and enjoy the arts, why public arts and institutions are critical to developing Hong Kong, the integration of West Kowloon Cultural District's effects on the art market, and in
creating the eco-system to support an art market.

Part 2: The Art Market

In the second part of the seminar, he expanded on their role and function in the art market eco-system. The importance of Hong Kong's art identity and the benefits of contributing to the wonderful world of art.
